Chattanooga Volunteer Opportunities

How can you welcome refugees in the Chattanooga community?

For information about any of the Volunteer Opportunities listed below please fill out the form below.

Transportation Assistant
Time Commitment: Varies, appointments usually take place on weekdays between 9:00-5:00.

  • Newly arrived refugees have many appointments and orientations they must go to- from health screenings and immunizations to enrolling children in school. Volunteers can assist in providing these crucial services to our clients.
Apartment Setup
Time Commitment: Coordinated with the pre-arrival specialist, most tasks take 1-2 hours between 9:00-5:00.

  • Before our clients arrive at the airport, Bridge must find and furnish suitable apartments for them. There are many ways to be involved in this process, and it’s a great opportunity for groups wishing to volunteer. You can assist with moving furniture, shopping for food, and setting up the apartment to make it a welcoming home!
Donation Organizer
Time Commitment: Varies based on your schedule.

  • Refugees arrive in America with very few possessions. Bridge is responsible for providing our clients with many items, and you or your organization can make valuable donations to this effort. Acceptable donations include home furnishings and dishware, cleaning supplies and basic toiletries, beds, mattresses and bedding, toys and books for children, seasonally appropriate clothing, and vehicles. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact Pre-Arrival specialist, Jennifer Croxall, at 423-355-5969 for further guidelines.
Community Assistance Team
Time Commitment: 3-6 Months

  • Forming a community assistance team is an excellent opportunity for faith or secular communities to “welcome the stranger” in Chattanooga. Teams generally consist of 5-15 committed volunteers who agree to assist a refugee family for at least the first three months after their arrival. Teams greet families on arrival at the airport and assist them in establishing their lives here in Chattanooga. Community Assistance Teams provide a valuable source of friendship and support to our clients and help them feel welcome and secure in their new communities.
Community Guide
Time Commitment: At least one hour weekly or bi-weekly for a minimum of 3 months. This can take place outside of regular office hours.

  • Help new refugees get accustomed to the Chattanooga area and its unique culture. Make a 3- month commitment to meet with an individual or family regularly to show them different areas of Chattanooga, to cook a meal together, to introduce them to community resources all while reinforcing the work our case managers do to help clients create a new home in Chattanooga.
Interpretation and Translation
Time Commitment: Varies, appointments usually take place on weekdays from 9-5.

Professional Skills

If you have other ideas about how you can help Bridge, we would love to hear them. Please contact our volunteer manager to talk about sharing your skills.
