Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities abound at Bridge. While this list is not comprehensive, it will give you a good idea of the areas in which we need volunteers.

In the Office . . .

  • Office assistance—answering phones, photocopying, running errands, etc.

  • Maintenance—office cleaning and repairs

  • Fundraising—help us plan a few fundraising events throughout the year

Donations . . .

  • Pick-up—go to homes, churches, and businesses to pick up donations and take them to our storage areas

  • Organization—spend an afternoon helping us organize the storage areas

  • Delivery—take donations from the storage area to refugee apartments

  • Set-up—help set up apartments for new arrivals

For the Refugees . . .

  • Housing—no, you don’t have to provide it. Just help us find it! Coordinate housing for refugees by helping us forge relationships with landlords and apartment managers.

  • Financial lessons—introduce refugees to banking and budgeting

  • Socialization—from sending a birthday card to visiting a park or store, socializing with refugees is a great way to volunteer

  • Lessons/Programs—we would love to start a program for our teens, and we are open to your creative ideas in this area

  • Sports/Recreation—put your sports skills to good use by organizing a soccer game or a bowling night!

  • Cooking/Nutrition—teach refugees about proper food storage, share new recipes, or help them identify healthy foods.

  • ESL—help a refugee learn English

  • Tutoring—provide non-ESL tutoring to children or adults

  • Mentoring/support—provide grief counseling (if you are a professional) or  provide a listening ear and moral support for refugees

  • Reading/Writing—help new English-speakers improve their reading and writing skills

  • Legal issues—teach about our community’s laws

  • Art/Music—share your artistic abilities by teaching an instrument lesson or an art class

  • Driving—for the bold among you! Help a refugee adjust to society by teaching him or her about traffic laws and how to drive.

  • Shopping—take a family to the grocery store and teach them to shop thriftily

  • Transportation—you can be a big help just by driving a refugee to an appointment or the Bridge office

  • Medical support—help a refugee obtain prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs, meet medical appointments, and receive dental and vision care

  • First aid/fire safety—teach refugees what to do in the case of emergencies
